Hyderabad: A six-member regional attention diversion gang stole around a kg of gold jewelry in the past two years from city houses. The gang, involved in 25 cases, pretended to rob jewelry and other valuables and after gaining the confidence of the victims, flee with valuables. Police arrested five members of the gang and seized 1.08 kg gold jewelry worth Rs 30 lakh, three bikes, and five mobile phones.
Police said they received a complaint from a housewife whose 11.5 tola gold jewelry was stolen by two men who claimed to be Ujala Shine agents and said they had come for a product launch. They initially, cleaned a copper object with a sample powder and later cleaned silver articles. Seeing this, the housewife’s daughter gave them her silver anklets, which they cleaned. Later, they showed them a substance to clean gold ornaments. “They boiled turmeric powder in a bowl, took 11.5 tola gold jewelry from the victims and put them in the boiling water. They asked for more turmeric powder to mix in the water and after adding it they told them to check the jewelry after 10 minutes and left. When the victims checked the bowl after 10 minutes, the jewelry was missing,” east zone DCP Dr. V. Ravinder said, adding that the gang operates in teams of two.
They realized that they were cheated and approached the police. Police found a regional gang was involved and nabbed Rajeeth Sah and Kaneya Prasad from their hideout in Mangalhat. Based on their confession, a team was sent to Bihar from where Bambam Sah and Ajay Mandal were picked up. Later, one Sunil Kumar was nabbed from Mangalhat. One Mukesh Kumar is escaped. Cops found the gang was involved in thefts in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Nagpur, Pune and Nashik. “Rajeeth Sah admitted that he was involved in 33 cases across Hyderabad and Cyberabad. Sunil Sah and Mukesh Kumar also were earlier arrested by Pune police,” the DCP added. The arrested men were produced in court.
